Everything you need to know about your Astrology Sign
The Zodiac: Introduction.
The zodiac (greek word zodiacos means Circle of Animals). The signs are twelve symbols that represent phases of an interrupted flowing cycle of growth. It’s important to remember they are not twelve sharp divisions in a chart. The zodiac is in fact a continuos flow .without borders, blending into each other, similar to changes in a color spectrum. This is also a representation of life in the Universe constantly flowing, expanding and blending.
Signs of the zodiac are classified by quality, element and polarity. In Western astrology there are four elements, earth, air fire and water.
Earth: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn - practical, conservative and often materialistic.
Air: Aquarius, Gemini, Libra - Intellectual, communicative and person-oriented.
Fire: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius - Inspirational, self-motivating and future- oriented.
Water: Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio - emotional, intuitive and attuned to subtle “vibrations”.
The three qualities of the signs are cardinal, fixed and mutable.
Cardinal Signs: Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn - initiate change. They begin each season of the year . These signs are initiating, restless and goal-oriented.
Fixed Signs: Aquarius, Taurus, Leo, Scorpio - always follow Cardinal signs and consolidate and make permanent that which the Cardinal signs begin. Fixed signs can be concentrated, stubborn and persistent.
Mutable Signs: Pisces, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius - signal change. These signs signify termination of the old and preparation for the new - transit periods in life. Mutable signs are adaptable and have a strong mental ability.
The signs have a positive or negative polarity. Beginning with Aries, the signs alternate positive/negative through the zodiac. Fire and air signs are considered positive, self-expressive. Water and earth signs are considered negative, self repressive.
The positive polarity is Yang and influences the sign toward an outgoing nature. Signs of a negative polarity are Yin and are more withdrawn, introverted. they are receptive, responsive and reactive to outside influences.
